Undertaken over the last 12 months, Manchester Museum's £15m transformation is almost complete with the newly renovated space due to open in February 2023.

This exciting project has seen extensive work undertaken to the Museum's building and internal exhibition planning, with changes to come including:

  • New South Asia Gallery on the first floor
  • New Lee Kai Hung Chinese Culture gallery
  • Prehistory exhibits, including dinosaurs!
  • Brand new Exhibition Hall, which will be home to the spectacular Golden Mummies of Egypt exhibition from opening
  • New cafe, shop, prayer room and picnic areas
  • Fully rebuilt museum entrance and two-storey extension

Manchester Museum's refurbishment and renovation project has been completed with support from Arts Council England, The National Lottery Heritage Fund, many individual supporters and Impression's client The University of Manchester.

Complex museum refurbishment, renovation & rebuild project

Manchester Museum's renovation and rebuild required the relocation of over 18,000 Ancient Egypt and Sudan objects - the fifth-largest collection in the UK - which will return to the museum in time for February's reopening. The refurbished museum brings the attraction up to date, creating more room to showcase fantastic collections and exhibitions.

The Golden Mummies of Egypt exhibition is set to be a stunning highlight in February. Having toured the US and China previously, the collection containing 8 mummies and over 100 objects from Manchester's own Egyptology collection will be housed in the major new 420m2 Exhibition Hall, purpose-built for large exhibitions and exciting objects.

Impression's outreach signage creates a buzz around Manchester Museum

In preparation for the reopening of this major attraction for Manchester, Impression was appointed by Manchester Museum and the University of Manchester to print and install highly-visible outreach signage around the exterior of the building.

Attracting attention and generating interest amongst passers-by, our work included large banners to promote the Golden Mummies exhibition, the launch and opening times of the new Museum Cafe, and 'teaser' graphics promoting the museum's much-anticipated reopening and social media content.

It's critical that this important attraction reopens with a 'bang', and we're delighted to have played a part in creating an early buzz in advance of February. We can't wait to see what's inside!
