Wigan Council is undertaking a major redevelopment of the former Wigan Galleries shopping centre, breathing fresh life into this crucial town centre area. The regeneration of the site into a new leisure, entertainment and residential complex will feature a 90,000 sq ft market hall, food precinct, cinema and entertainment complex, together with a 144-room hotel to be operated by Hampton by Hilton. Over 400 new homes also form part of the master plan scheme.
Impression was delighted to work with our local authority client, alongside other local organisations, craftspeople and creatives, to launch its brand for the project. “Fettlers” is inspired by local dialect, celebrating Wigan’s industrial heritage and reputation for “making” – or “fettlin’” – anything from clogs and pottery to sport, art and music. Our team’s props, graphics and visuals communicated the meaning behind the brand, bringing Fettlers to the public stage for the first time.

Impression and Wigan Council have established a strong working relationship over the last few years, and our team was excited to be involved in the Fettlers launch. During our Consult phase, we collaborated with our local authority client to explore and understand the messages behind Fettlers and its brand visuals, as well as Wigan’s plans for a VIP brand launch.
It was essential that our work immersed event guests into the Fettlers brand from the moment they arrived. Impression’s team planned a scheme comprising bespoke, sustainably-produced props, large format graphics, freestanding displays, window vinyls and external hoardings that were sure to catch the eye, maximise brand visibility and create intrigue.
Designed by Wigan’s appointed brand specialists, the Fettlers brand visuals were kept tightly under wraps until the launch event.
Impression’s in-house Design team worked confidentially with the visuals in line with brand specifications and guidelines to prepare artwork across the launch scheme for print. Quality assured throughout to maintain quality and branding consistency, Impression maintained great communication with our local authority client and its consultants in order to deliver print-ready artwork in line with the launch timescales.
From bold lettering, detailed display stands and wall displays, to large format graphics, printed site hoardings, signage and fun stickers to take away, Impression printed, manufactured and finished all materials in-house at our Greater Manchester workshop, quality assured throughout by our Create team’s Production Manager.
Wigan Council chose to launch Fettlers sustainably, in line with its corporation values. Meeting this vision, we created cut-out lettering, props and displays using printed engineered cardboard to make an impressive impact with a lower carbon footprint.
Impression’s print and prop products, from “People Make Wigan” hoardings around the launch venue and large format graphics erected around the town centre, to bespoke props, lettering, displays, wall graphics and window vinyls for the launch event, were professionally installed by our Deliver installation team.
The venue and the wider town centre areas were prepared in good time for our client’s brand launch event, without unveiling visuals too soon in order to preserve the impact of the launch. The VIP launch got people talking, with displays, visuals, props and branded products giving guests a fascinating insight into what Fettlers will bring to Wigan town centre.
Creating a fun, engaging and bold brand launch, Impression’s unique and sustainably-created props, displays, large format graphics, window vinyls and external hoardings got people talking about Fettlers, as this important regeneration scheme takes shape in Wigan town centre.
