Bolton Food & Drink Festival

Visual branding partners for Bolton’s record-breaking community event

The brief

Bolton Food & Drink Festival, operated by Bolton Council, is one of the UK’s largest festivals dedicated to food and drink. Held over four days, in 2019 a record-breaking 400,000 visitors enjoyed global cuisines, celebrity and professional chef demonstrations and hundreds of stalls throughout the town centre, bringing an important annual economic boost to Bolton.

As well as sponsoring the event, Impression works with Bolton Council, headline sponsors and town centre events teams to create a buzz around the Food & Drink Festival. Unique visual branding, print and consultancy generates awareness in the area, and promotional, outreach and directional graphics and signage support all stages of the Festival.

Consult

Impression works alongside Bolton Council’s Marketing & Communications department to identify key themes, events and concepts for the Festival, enabling us to create a suite of products tailored to our client’s vision each year. Our work must tie together all aspects to produce a cohesive visual campaign, from the street stall areas to preview events, gala dinners, celebrity pop-ups and sponsors’ evenings.

Having been involved in the Festival for many years, Impression enjoys excellent understanding of our client’s brand expectations. Creative but sustainable solutions are of particular importance to Bolton Food & Drink Festival, ensuring our client receives not just great value but meets its environmental objectives.

Design

From fun kids’ zones to unique promotional props and essential directional signage, Impression’s design team produces a complete range of concepts that make for a memorable Food & Drink Festival.

Freestanding photo opportunity booths, ‘Beachlife’ kids’ zones and life-sized celebrity chef cutouts are great talking points, and dressing the Town Hall’s 4m-tall stone lions in ‘chef’s whites’ in 2019 was a quirky highlight that made the most of Bolton’s fantastic architecture. Unique, one-off props are supported by branded signage and print products that engage visitors and communicate a professional message about this important event for Bolton.

Create

All products are produced by Impression at our Bolton base. With a fast production schedule to meet our clients’ timescales, and great teamwork between our designers, production and installation managers, materials are finished to an excellent standard and quality-assured throughout.

Our work is seen throughout the Festival’s public spaces, from branded chef demonstration areas to directional and promotional signage throughout Bolton and surrounding areas. Producing gala dinner and celebrity event graphics, signage, invitations and menus requires immediate turnaround, and our local Bolton team works quickly to get materials to site on time throughout the 4-day Festival.

Deliver

Impression’s installation team gets people talking about the Food & Drink Festival, installing signage, props and promotional products across Bolton and the surrounding area. Our Installation Manager takes care of written risk assessments and other health and safety documentation, ensuring our work meets the requirements of Bolton Council’s Facilities and Property departments.

Working with Bolton’s town centre events team, delivery and installation of all materials are scheduled to make impact and generate interest in good time before the event, with high visibility and public safety always our key considerations. Once the Food & Drink Festival is over, Impression’s post-event aftercare includes take-down, removal and storage of graphics and props.
