Impression has worked with Bolton Council and local artist Verona Medhurst to create a unique exhibition in the town centre this autumn.

Our team was thrilled to be asked to support Bolton Council with a new art installation in Bolton town centre this autumn.
Launched to coincide with Bolton Food & Drink Festival, a major event in the town's calendar - which our team was once again chuffed to support through both visual branding work and enjoying the food and drink on offer! - the new exhibition in the window of the former Beales store on Deansgate features balsa and clay models of Bolton's best-loved buildings created by local artist, Verona Medhurst.
Verona's models include much-loved and highly-recognisable buildings including Hall i' th' Wood, Ye Olde Pastie Shoppe, Burnden Park and Fred Dibnah's house, as well as replicas of local pubs and other buildings which celebrate Bolton's social history.

Bolton artist Verona Medhurst alongside two models from her collection of Bolton's best-loved buildings. Impression's creative team loves working with talented artists like Verona, and it's a real privilege to be able to support the exhibition of her beautiful work.

Verona's models for the new Bolton exhibition feature local landmarks including pubs, historical buildings, much-loved shops and sports grounds. The accuracy and detail that's gone into each intricate model is remarkable, and the exhibition's well worth a visit!
Each model is signed off with 'BB+B' for 'Bolton Born & Bred', giving this exhibition a truly local focus. Smaller works take Verona around 50 hours to complete, with Hall i' th' Wood taking over 140 hours.
"I am so thrilled to see my artwork on display. I have always thought Bolton is a great place to live. My roots are here. Even if I won the lottery, I wouldn't leave.
I try and choose the buildings which mean something to people - both historical and more recent. There is so much social history in Bolton and these buildings have lots of memories for many residents and visitors."
Impression was tasked with creating the display and visual branding products to showcase Verona's work in the window of the former Beales store.
During our Consult phase, we worked with Verona and our client Georgia Hackett from Bolton Council to identify the intended look and feel of the exhibition, the project's timescales and its scope.
Our team devised a unique display scheme which put Verona's models front and centre, complementing the artworks with nostalgia images, display information and graphics which embedded each model into the Bolton landscape.
Design by our in-house studio, led by Studio Manager Rebecca who also took the lead during installation, sourced and prepared graphics and images ready for print, as well as creating eye-catching display plinths for each model and window graphics featuring information about the exhibition and each section of the display.
Our production team was kept busy during Create phase, building each display plinth by hand and producing large format graphics on the presses to complete the backdrop of the window exhibition. Production Manager Scott was even joined by his daughter for some hands-on work experience, finalising each plinth to our exceptional standards.
As ever, Impression's own installation team completed the exhibition on time and with great care and precision during Deliver, skilfully handling models with minimal contact and completing installation of the display's window graphics, large format backdrop graphics and additional props.

1. Studio Manager Rebecca takes care of Verona's artworks during installation of the Bolton buildings exhibition, displaying each on custom-built plinths against a backdrop of large format, nostalgia images of Bolton and the surrounding area.

2. Verona's intricate replica model of the Ye Olde Man & Scythe pub on Churchgate in Bolton. The exhibition features models from across the town and throughout the centuries, including shops, pubs, historical buildings and modern sports grounds such as Burnden Park.

3. Rebecca fine-tunes the display of Deansgate shop models, ensuring each display plinth is clean, and each model secure and ready for public view. With distinctive and impactful retail visual branding a specialism of Impression's team, we particularly love these old shop frontages!

4. Rebecca works with client Georgia to ensure installation is in line with our initial Consult phase scheme and delivered on time, in line with our client's launch timescales.

5. Taking care during the production of large format graphics to ensure crystal-clear print is complemented by quality-assured accuracy in order to professionally display Verona's models. Our in-house print and manufacturing facilities enable our studio team to work closely with production, keeping visual branding and displays on track through continual quality monitoring and scheduling.

6. An ever-versatile team, Impression also created bespoke display plinths for each model, trimming to size and ensuring each plinth was strong and sturdy enough to carry the models securely.

7. Production Manager Scott, aided by Cara, working on a display plinth, equipping the unit with lighting to aid visual display and large format graphics to create a unique, eye-catching look and feel.

8. Final finishing touches during installation, ensuring a perfect finish on each window graphic that supported Verona's artworks to provide information about local landmarks for viewers.

9. The completed display in the window of the former Beales store in Bolton, featuring bespoke visual branding, large format window display graphics and unique display plinths that showcase Verona's models. Impression's team took care of the exhibition from start to finish, working with our local authority client and the artist on the display concept before designing and manufacturing each asset, and managing installation of the exhibition through to its launch.
