Replacing old and outdated facilities in the area, Bolton Council’s new-build centre on Foundry Street creates a modern and accessible home for health, library and community services in Little Lever, a thriving residential area in Bolton.
Impression enjoys a strong working partnership with Bolton Council and Bolton Library & Museum Services, delivering visual branding and communications to centres and projects throughout the town, and we were pleased to support the completion of the Little Lever centre with signage, graphics and print that created a modern look and feel, and in the library communicated the rich industrial heritage of the area.

Bolton Council invested around £5m into the new Little Lever Health Centre & Library, closing a local 40-year-old health centre which had been deemed unfit for purpose and moving 3 GP practices into the new building, together with the library which had outgrown its previous home dating back to 1940.
The modern and contemporary centre, a steel frame and brick building designed with eco features, suited a fresh look externally, with signage to help visitors around the new site. Internally, we worked with the Bolton LMS team to devise a library scheme which was up-to-date in style but communicated local area history for an immersive and engaging visitor experience, making the most of the library’s new layout.
The library gave our design team the opportunity to delve into Little Lever’s past, acknowledging not just the library’s new surroundings but incorporating visuals and images that would educate, inform and allow for reflection on times gone by.
Having identified preferred display areas, a selection of our client’s archive photographs were prepared for print using techniques which delivered as much clarity as possible for these large-format images. Unique wall graphics were designed to add interest and information for the whole community, breaking up large wall spaces with artwork featuring Little Lever’s history dating back to 1212, early maps and images of the area’s past.
Little Lever’s signage and wall graphics were produced entirely in-house by our local Impression team at our Bolton headquarters. Contemporary external directional and wayfinding signage includes robust wall-mounted and post signs throughout the site, branded to Bolton Council’s recognisable visuals.
Internal visuals and artwork for the library were printed directly onto strong boards for this busy library, with print clarity a priority to ensure archive photography was beautifully displayed and colourful wall graphics eye-catching. As ever, production was quality assured and our print schedule monitored to deliver print consistency throughout the project.
Our installation schedule was planned to meet the Centre and Library’s opening schedule, with external signage installed first followed by internal signage and wall graphics. The library officially opened to the public on 28th February 2022, and our Installation Manager Paul and team worked with our client and its contractors to ensure all print and graphics were in place in good time.
Our Deliver team is CSCS-accredited, allowing us to work safely on site, and prior to every installation we complete all necessary risk assessments for a professional, quality-assured approach to our clients’ projects. Fully open for business, the new health centre and library is a valuable local asset, offering computer equipment and training, books, magazines and audio-visual resources for local people, and a much-needed group activity space where the community can get together.
